In this article, I will be sharing with you what it is like to work remote and hybrid jobs, the liberating feeling and the challenges it poses.

  1. It allows you to work from anywhere. the model of remote work allows you to work full time, from the comfort of your home or anywhere you like with your work setup and good internet connection. It is eminent to note that some employers may require you to work from the company’s location but however require you occasionally to visit your workplace or do not have to visit at all if your workplace is completely online.
  2. They come with flexible schedule. The thing about remote job is that you can choose your schedule as long as you complete your total work hours and efficiently do your work. This has proven to improve work-life balance and increase productivity.
  3. Opportunities to interact with a global team. Collaborating with a global team exposes you to learn, explore cultural and various perspectives and also share ideas.

Demerits of working remotely

  1. Working across multiple time zones with a global team could be really challenging and reduce productivity because of the difference in time zone.
  2. The absence of physical contact and isolation during long work hours is something you will experience.
  3. Distraction is inevitable. These may include the urge to move around, social media, use of phone and the list is endless.


What you need to know is that hybrid work arrangement balance the norm of both traditional office work and remote work. It allows you the model of working remotely or in the office simultaneously, but in hybrid, the company solely determines whether you work at their workplace or remotely and how many days in the week you get for either. So if you are considering a hybrid work, make sure to convey your preferences before applying.

Challenges of hybrid work

  1. The feeling of separation from the on-site team due to lack of communication often lead to loss of transparency and trust.
  2. Limited flexibility of your schedule. Accomplishing flexibility of work and time can be challenging subject to the availability of both teams, if either of the team fails to meet up any requirement, this results in delay of feedbacks and completion of tasks.

Finally, employees are actively seeking out remote and hybrid jobs because the models of these jobs are patterned in ways to work independently, manage time and flexible work schedule to maximize productivity which foster advancement in your career. In most cases, choosing to work remotely or hybrid depends on the type of industry or work style you hope to work in.
